Time restrictions for guided tours through the Basilica in 2015
Because of construction and intonation works on the new great organ in the basilica the visiting hours will be restricted in the period from May 26th to August 30th 2015: Mon-Fri 12.30–14.00; Sat-Sun 13.00–17.00. These limited times only apply to visiting the basilica. All other rooms such as the collection of icons, the cloisters with inner court yard, the Abbot’s stair case and the Bernardihall are open to the public as usual.
As an alternative to the basilica we show you the impressive parish church of Stams. This church was used as the first monks’ church before the consecration of the basilica in 1284, and was turned into baroque style in 1754–59 by Abbot Rogerius Sailer. The most important Tyrolean artists of the time worked for the embellishment of this church: e.g. the sculptor Johann Reindl from Stams, who also made the altars for the basilica, and the painter Franz Anton Zeiller from Reutte, who painted the ceiling frescos of Saint John the Baptist. The plastering of the famous school of Wessobrunn is among the most beautiful in Tyrol and is of outstanding quality. The cycle of paintings that show the foundation of the monastery Stams is also of great interest. From these tours visitors get extra insights into the monastery’s history.
Orario ristretto di apertura per le visite guidate nella basilica di Stams
A causa di lavoro di costruzione e intonazione per il grande organo nuovo della basilica di Stams dobbiamo ridurre le visite guidate durante il periodo di 26 maggio a 30 agosto 2015: lunedì-venerdì 12.30–14.00; sabato-domenica 13.00–17.00. Queste restrizioni afferiscono solamente la basilica! Tutte altre parti del monastero come la collezione delle icone, il chiostro con il suo giardino, il vano scala dell’abbate e la sala di San Bernardo sono aperti al pubblico secondo il consueto.
In luogo della basilica le mostriamo la chiesa parrocchiale di Stams, impressionante del suo addobbo artistico. Questa chiesa serviva come chiesa dei monaci prima della consacrazione della basilica nel 1284, ed era trasformata in stile barocco di 1754–59 per l’abbate Rogerius Sailer. Gli artisti più importanti Tirolesi di questo tempo hanno lavorato per il allestimento intero: p.es. il scultore Johann Reindl di Stams, chi anche ha fatto gli altari della basilica, ed il pittore Franz Anton Zeiller di Reutte, chi ha fatto i freschi di San Giovanni Battista. Lo stucco della famosa scuola di Wessobrunn è di qualità estraordinaria e conta su il più bello del Tirolo. D’un grande interesse è il ciclo di pitture che mostra la fondazione del monastero. Così i visitatori ottengono impressioni inconsuete della storia del monastero.
